Time-sync Neuroscan & EMG data collection

Post by tmcguirk » 13 Feb 2014, 10:45

Hello, I am new to BCI2000 and how it works. I am hoping someone could point me in the best direction to start my project. I currently have an experiment set up which is run using Acquire to collect EEG data with a Neuroscan system. The experiment also interacts with an inMotion2 robot sending states via a local internet connection to control when different images appear on the screen. The data between both of these pieces of equipment are currently time synced and saved in separate files.

I would like to add an additional component to this experiment: collect EMG data. I have a few different types of EMG hardware/software I can use to collect the data but I need it synced to the EEG data collected with Neuroscan (via a command from Acquire). So I want to know what methods are available for doing this? Is it possible to program in BCI200 to also have the EMG data stored in separate channels right along with the EEG data? If not, what are different ways to give/receive a sync pulse or other even marker which I could record in my EMG data file, and what are ways to send the signal?

Thanks very much for your direction.

Your best bet is to record the EMG directly into the Neuroscan amplifier, but only if your amplifier is well-suited for EMG acquisition.
Which device do you have? Forgive me if this is a silly question, I'm not familiar with Neuroscan products. On their website I see NuAmps, NuAmps Express, Synamps, and Synamps RT.

Another option is to use two separate recording devices (+ 2 separate acquisition programs) and synchronize them later based on synchronization pulses sent to both devices. Maybe one of your devices has the ability to send out a synch pulse? I recommend recording the synch pulse as analog in both systems.

I don't think it is a good solution to try to use BCI2000 to record from two different sources simultaneously.

tmcguirk and I have made a lot of progress on this issue, and are now stuck on what I think is the last hurdle, which I posted as a separate thread here: http://www.bci2000.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2397
